EcoMEDIA europe Summer Academy 2019 titled “The New European School through the ICTs” is going to take place, once more, in one of Peloponnisos’ most beautiful, touristy, and attractive places, Kalamata, from the 7th to the 14th of July 2019, organized by the Directorate of Secondary Education of Messinia.

The “New European School”, according to the “Europe 2020” strategy

On the occasion of the European Council Recommendation on May 2018, Youth, Culture and Sports were identified as Key Competences for Lifelong Learning. The Council’s Recommendation aims at promoting key competences and basic skills for learning such as:  

  • Literacy and Languages
  • Math, Science and Engineering
  • Digital Competence
  • Personal, Social and Learning Competence
  • Civic competence
  • Entrepreneurship and Cultural awareness and expression

It is a fact, nowadays, that the “New European School“, according to the “Europe 2020” strategy, targets traditional key competences such as literacy, Math and foreign languages while also comprising Science and its combinations (STEAM) and extending to entrepreneurship and civic competence with the digital competence on the one hand to function as a distinct key competence and on the other hand to permeate and facilitate the rest of them.  

In the view of this “New European School”, we, at the Directorate of Secondary Education of Messinia, decided to invite teachers from all over the world to gather in Peloponnisos, south of Greece, in order to participate in a week of theory and practice, with pioneer ICT tools which reinforce the digital competence as well as teaching and learning in Science and Humanistic study fields, on the following thematic modules:

  • Technology-supported Flipped Classroom
  • Integrated Simulation Environments
  • Teaching and Learning in 3D Virtual Worlds
  • Tools for designing digital games
  • Robotics and Collaborative Learning environments
  • Jigsaw Classroom
